English Language Challenges

Hi everyone!

Today I’m going to write about my experience in learning English.

I always have loved learning English but I never give to this subject enough time to go in depth. At university, this is my first semester of English in this career and I have learned a lot because there were so much things that I didn’t remember from school. In relation to the use of blogs I think it has helped me so much because you must talk about different themes and that makes you use and learn a lot of new vocabulary and grammatical tenses. Sometimes we have in our mind ideas but when we have to write about something it’s totally different.

Regarding to what aspects of my English need to be improve, I think it’s “the speaking” because it’s not so good. It’s difficult for me to pronounce a lot of words but I try haha with some of my classmates that must to do English at university too, have planned to practice talking in English in the lunch or breaks we have.   And I think I use English a lot outside the class because I’m always watching series or movies or listening to music in English and this makes me learn a lot too.

Changes to my study program

Hi everyone today I will talk about some changes that could be made to my career: Social Work.

Well, when I decided to study Social Work I was really satisfied about some subjects. For example, we have a subject called Gender Theories that I think it’s totally necessary and I have not seen in another careers. Despite this, I disagree about the length of studies (five years), because it implies a lot of time, although this fact is not exclusive of Social Work but the majority of professional careers in Chile, I think this could be changed because it seems like some subjects of the curriculum have been thought just to ”fill space” so we have to pay more years.

In Social Work an important aspect to consider is the language learning because the majority of studies about this discipline are in English, German or Portuguese.  We have an obligatory subject of language: English J but it would be great if we had one more instead of subjects like the first “Tranversal” we had in first year because with a lot of my classmates think it was more like a burden subject instead of a time to learn because made workload heavier. Also, I would like our first two years of career were not just “read” because this makes difficult to imagine how we will “put in practice” all the things we have learned maybe if we could take part in some organizations we could notice things that are unperceived in just a reading exercise. I think it should be a balance between that we read and what we do outside of academic papers.

OPINIONS

What is your opinion about owning an exotic pet?

I think owning an exotic pet is not correct. In first place, it must be a huge reason to call them “exotic pets”, probably they have been took from places that have particular habitats and specific weathers and I think that force them to live in a place that is not  their natural home just to please a human desire is not something I agree. Besides I wonder why you’d want an exotic pet if there are a lot of “non-exotic animals” to take care of.

What is your opinion about the immigration situation in Chile?

This topic is really important. I think the immigration in Chile have been took for some politics to obtain votes, which is really alarming because there is a hate discourse about how the immigration is not a human right and how the immigrants come to Chile to commit crimes or take jobs that "are for Chilean people", all this reasons are based in fake and stupid stereotypes that just generate a more segregated community

What is your opinion about tattoos?

I love tattoos, when I was in high school I thought tattoos needs to have a strong meaning about philosophy, religion or maybe a date that had a mark on you but now I think my idea about this have changed. I mean, tattoos can have specific meanings but also can be used for more aesthetics reasons without a transcendental sense.   Besides, I think people never have to be judged because of their tattoos and maybe that is something older people don’t understand sometimes.

What is your opinion about the Chilean tradition called ‘mechoneo’?

I think is a stupid tradition because you have to tolerate that someone you barely know humiliate you in front of everyone. Maybe there are a lot of dynamics that makes “mechoneo” looks more like a funny game, (gymkhanas, paint your hair or body, etc.) but the point is how someone who is just one or two years older than you believes that have the power to make you do things you don’t want to, because if you don’t accept it they can cut your hair, or cut your clothes…

Themed-post 3: conspiracy theories

Hi everyone! Today the theme is about conspiracy theories. Well, this theme take me by surprise because I know nothing about it but I will try to tell you about one that I remember have read in different blogs:  the Avril Lavigne’s death. This theory is based on the idea that the singer Avril Lavigne is dead since 2003. Supposedly, Avril would have been in a big depression because of the death of her grandfather and also she’d have been dealing with a lot of stress because of the success of her career in that time. So, an actress called Melissa Vandella, who apparently looks just like “the real Avril”, used to take her place in some concerts or public appearance.

 As times passes and the problems got more complicated to Avril, Melissa did more public appearances until Avril decided to take one’s own life. In that point, Melissa was so used to “live like Avril” that she took her place forever.  Some supporters of this theory explain that the differences between Avril and Melissa are, for example, a change in the voice of Avril, the sudden transformation in the style of the singer and also inexplicable new birthmarks. At present, in different interviews Avril have been interrogated about it and she had said that sounds really strange and even funny. I can’t say if this theory is true or false but I can say that in internet there are a lot of people who believes in this theory.

Post graduate studies

Hi everyone, today the post is about post graduate studies. Well, I have dreamed a lot with travel and study abroad but the truth is that I have not thought in that in a really deep way. I mean, today is very important to get a post graduate degree because it’s something that helps a lot to find a job, like “oh, you must study to put it in your CV...” (I have heard this…), but there are a lot of  things involve like family or money. Maybe if I decide to study abroad it would be like for two or three years because I think I would miss my family so much ☹ but I don’t know yet maybe I will get used to it…

The subjects I would like to study are maybe a master in my career (Social Work) or maybe some subject related like social psychology but another area that I love to study it would be drama or cultural management. That area is like my frustrated dream. In regard to how I would like to study I’d prefer a part-time course because that could give me time to find a job or do more things. I don’t want to be just studying ☹ sometimes it is boring. And well, that is all that I can say about it by now because I have not decided anything yet hahah

My favorite anime

Hi everyone!

Today I will tell you about a theme I don’t know much: a favorite anime

Well, I’m not a huge fan of the anime not because I hate otakus haha just because  I don’t know many of them L So if you could recommend me one I would be grateful. So, I remember have seen Digimon when I was a child and absolutely loved it. As soon as I came home from school I turned on the tv and put CHV to see this anime. I really wished to know the digiworld and meet all the digimons. Also I still remember the opening from Digimon Adventure because is a master piece. My school friends always said that Pokemon was so much better than Digimon but I never was agree. Actually, I still believe that Digimon is better haha.

My favorite character in Digimon Adventure was Mimi Tachikawa because she was charming, sweet and a strong girl! And Palmon, her digimon, was funny and when she digi-evolve in Angewomom I freaked out because She was so beautiful! Also I think I had a crush on Matt because he was so mysterious

I know there are like four or five more Digimons but the truth it’s that I knever saw it. Now I’m thinking in have a marathon to see all the seasons.

Movies or series that left a mark on you

Hi everyone!

Today I’m going to write about series. The truth is I love them! I have seen a few like Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Black Mirror, Vikings but if I have to choose one that left a mark on me It is Skins haha. Why? Well, this is a british serie that talks about eating disorders, depression, gender, alcoholism, drug addiction and other themes in that line, besides the story line revolve around a group of teenagers from Bristol. The thing is that when I saw this serie i was a teenager too so it had a big impact in my life. With my friends started to discuss about it and we became big fans. Actually, we used to get together to see Skins so I keep really good memories of that time.

My favourite character was Chris, he was really funny and he smoked  a lot of weed. The sad thing about this character It’s that he dies. When this happened It was so unexpected to me and I was so furious with the writers that me and my Friends  wrote a letter asking to resurrect Chris, obviously we never send the letter but the rage is still alive in us.

My future job

This is a very important issue. I think it has been difficult to me to find out what I really want to do. When I was a child I wanted to be a math professor and now I can’t imagine how I wanted to be that because I am really bad in that subject. However, I like jobs that involved to work as a team so I decided to study Social Work because it allows me to work with people from different fields. I wish my future job it would be related with the development of public politics in areas like mental health, environmental awareness or culture promotion. I am really interested in these themes ,  I don’t feel like I know a lot about them but I’m trying to learn and be informed about it, besides this matters are a huge field of study and I think there is a lot we could do. So, I hope my future job it would be connected with those areas.  If I have to choose other option I have two ideas. First, I’d love to learn music and play piano or guitar and second, I’d go to live in a forest and become a witch.

The best concert I've ever had

Today I will tell you about one of the most amazing concerts that I have ever been. Well it’s not like I have been in a lot anyway but…

So, when I was fourteen old my best friend at that time, Barbara, invited me to the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert.  At first, I didn’t know what to say to her because I was not a huge fan of them and I didn’t know many songs just the most popular ones, but finally she convinced me to go.

When the day came, I remember it was in September, my friend and I met at Pedrero Metro Station. There were huge lines to enter to Estadio Monumental. Everything was normal until our turn to pass the tickets was close. In that moment I asked Barbara where our tickets to the concert were.  She looked at me, put a funny face and laughed. Barbara told me that she didn’t have any tickets because we had to gate-crashed. Then, when the security guard ask for the tickets I just react saying that I have missed my ticket and I run as fast as I could. When we finally were free of the security guard we enjoy an spectacular show and I loved RHCP until now.

A country I would like to visit

If I’d have enough money and I could travel the world, I would like to visit a lot of countries but in my top It’s Germany.  Some of the cities I’d visit It would be Leipzig, Berlin and Heidelberg. In some documentaries I have seen beautiful landscapes and architecture from Germany but especially of those places. The reasons I’d go to visit Germany are in first place, the language. I don’t know how to say anything in German and I've heard that is a really difficult language but It would be a personal challenge to learn it. In second place, my university has a study agreement with some of German universities and I’d love to study one semester there because I could learn not only the language but also the culture and history of Germany with more depth.  In third place, and because I love to eat and recently I’m trying to cook  I would like to take a class to learn German bakery.

personal opinions

• What is your opinion on the social networks and the effect they have on society?

I think that today social networks are really important because they allow to do things in minor time and make things easier but maybe we are using them too much.

• Is religion harmful or useful to modern society?

I think have faith in something It's really incredible but when people don't accept another religiuos beliefs or an institution use that faith to make money, religion turns to something harmful to modern society.

• What is your opinion on the idea that marriage is an outdated institution?

I think is an outdated institution not because people don't want to fall in love or share their life with someone but because marriage has the idea of obligation

• and finally a funny one: Going out or Netflix and chill? 

If it's summer time I would say going out because there are sunny days to enjoy but if we are in winter time I would totally say Netflix and chill, because Netflix is life and it's cold outside.
